Helikon-Tex Chicom Chest Rig - Available in Multiple Variants

The Chicom Chest Rig by Helikon-Tex is a simple and versatile chest rig with its roots dating back to the 1940s. It gained popularity during the Vietnam War. This comfortable and lightweight tool enables the carriage of essential equipment in confined spaces, such as urban environments or in CQB tactics. Its adaptability makes it ideal for tactical exercises, shooting training, and reconnaissance missions. The Chicom Chest Rig features a distinctive design with cut-off sides and three pockets sealed with hook and loop closures. The flaps of these pockets can be easily replaced with the included pull tabs, allowing customization to suit individual needs. The pockets can accommodate AK/AR-type magazines. This is the basic version that can be expanded by adding extra pouches, cargo pockets, and other accessories using the MOLLE/PALS panels on both the inside and outside. The name "Chicom" (short for China and Communist) points to its origin in the People's Republic of China, where it was introduced in the 1940s as a cost-effective and practical way to carry gear on the chest rather than the waist. Over the years, various Chicom versions were developed, adapted to changing ammunition, weapons, and requirements, including models tailored for specific firearms like PPS submachine guns, SKS rifles, and AK-47s. The Chicom Chest Rig gained significant popularity during the Vietnam War, especially when American forces captured enemy equipment. It later found use in special units such as the SOG and Navy Seals. After 2000, Chicom rigs regained relevance due to the involvement of the U.S. military in the conflict in Afghanistan.
