Product details
The Hardshell Squall - Torrentstretch Women's Jacket by Helikon-Tex combines the best features of both softshell and hardshell jackets, providing effective protection against rain and snow. The Women's Hardshell Squall Jacket is designed to fit the female silhouette, with modified pocket placement and a tailored cut. A softshell jacket, such as the Blizzard jacket, forms a soft layer that effectively shields against light wind and drizzle thanks to the DWR (Durable Water Repellent) coating. On the other hand, a hardshell jacket is a stronger layer that offers higher waterproofness while maintaining good breathability. The Hardshell Squall jacket utilizes a 3L laminate called TorrentStretch, which provides both waterproofness and breathability. The membrane of this jacket contains micro-pores that prevent water from penetrating the interior while effectively wicking away moisture in the form of water vapor released by the body. The three laminated layers create the TorrentStretch membrane. The Hardshell Squall jacket is a membrane jacket with excellent waterproofing properties, with a water column rating of 30,000 mm. Special attention was given to the details valued by hardshell users during the design of this jacket. The Squall jacket is a fully-fledged rain jacket with taped seams, equipped with an adjustable two-way hood with a high collar that provides additional protection against moisture. The YKK® AquaGuard® waterproof zippers offer extra moisture protection, and the main zipper is two-way and secured with a Prym snap. The Hardshell Squall jacket is coated with a hydrophobic DWR layer that is free of harmful PFCs (perfluorocarbons). In addition to waterproofing, the material's ability to allow water vapor to pass through from the body is equally important. This is achieved by the TorrentStretch membrane, which provides breathability at a rate of 30,000 g/m2/24h. It is also worth noting the Ret (Resistance to Evaporative Heat Transfer) value, which determines the permeability of water vapor through the membrane and therefore its breathability. The Hardshell Squall jacket has a Ret value below 5, indicating very good breathability. Underarm vents further enhance the breathability of the jacket, providing better ventilation during intense exertion and allowing for body temperature regulation. Adjustable cuffs with hook and loop fasteners, as well as hood and hem drawstrings, enable the jacket to be tailored to weather conditions. The jacket is equipped with sturdy Woojin stoppers. The Hardshell Squall jacket is designed to be worn with an additional insulation layer, such as the Wolfhound Hoodie, making it suitable both as a standalone jacket in spring and as an outer layer for winter expeditions. The jacket has three pockets, with two external pockets positioned at chest height to avoid interfering with backpack straps and chest belts, as well as one internal pocket for documents or a phone. There is a Velcro patch on the left arm for personalization. The Squall jacket is compact and can be folded into its own hood. Technologically advanced products like this jacket require special care to ensure longevity. It is recommended to regularly renew the hydrophobic DWR coating using a DWR treatment, following the maintenance instructions for membrane jackets.
